Propagation of localized optical waves in media with dispersion, in dispersionless media and in vacuum. Non-diffracting pulses

چکیده
The applied method of the amplitude envelopes give us the possibility to describe a new class of amplitude equations governing the propagation of optical pulses in media with dispersion, dispersionless media and vacuum. We normalized these amplitude equations and obtained five dimensionless parameters that determine different linear and nonlinear regimes of the optical pulses evolution. Surprisingly, in linear regime the normalized amplitude equations for media with dispersion and the amplitude equations in dispersionless media and vacuum are equal with precise material constants. The equations were solved for pulses with low intensity (linear regime), using the method of Fourier transforms. One unexpected new result was the relative stability of light bullets and light disks and the significant reduction of their diffraction enlargement. It is important to emphasize here the case of light disks, which turn out to be practically diffractionless over distances of more than hundred kilometers. PACS 42.81.Dp;05.45.Yv;42.65.Tg

Propagation of localized optical waves in media with dispersion, in dispersionless media and in vacuum. Low diffractive regime
We present a systematic study on linear propagation of ultrashort laser pulses in media with dispersion, dispersionless media and vacuum. The applied method of amplitude envelopes gives the opportunity to estimate the limits of slowly warring amplitude approximation and to describe an amplitude integro-differential equation, governing the propagation of optical pulses in single cycle regime. متن کاملInfluence of Rigidity, Irregularity and Initial Stress on Shear Waves Propagation in Multilayered Media
The propagation of shear waves in an anisotropic fluid saturated porous layer over a prestressed semi-infinite homogeneous elastic half-space lying under an elastic homogeneous layer with irregularity present at the interface with rigid boundary has been studied. The rectangular irregularity has been taken in the half-space. The dispersion equation for shear waves is derived by using the pertur...
متن کاملEffect of Initial Stress on Propagation of Love Waves in an Anisotropic Porous Layer
In the present paper, effect of initial stresses on the propagation of Love waves has been investigated in a fluid saturated, anisotropic, porous layer lying in welded contact over a prestressed, non-homogeneous elastic half space. The dispersion equation of phase velocity has been derived. It has been found that the phase velocity of Love waves is considerably influenced by porosity and anisot...
متن کاملRheological Response and Validity of Viscoelastic Model Through Propagation of Harmonic Wave in Non-Homogeneous Viscoelastic Rods
This study is concerned to check the validity and applicability of a five parameter viscoelastic model for harmonic wave propagating in the non-homogeneous viscoelastic rods of varying density. The constitutive relation for five parameter model is first developed and validity of these relations is checked. The non-homogeneous viscoelastic rods are assumed to be initially unstressed and at rest....
متن کاملCherenkov radiation versus X-shaped localized waves.
Localized waves (LW) are nondiffracting ("soliton-like") solutions to the wave equations and are known to exist with subluminal, luminal, and superluminal peak velocities V. For mathematical and experimental reasons, those that have attracted more attention are the "X-shaped" superluminal waves. Such waves are associated with a cone, so that one may be tempted-let us confine ourselves to electr...
